Process
Steps in Reverse Engineering Data Acquisition The very first step in Reverse engineering is to capture the geometry of the part by physically scanning the part. Curve Fitting And
Surface Generation Once the geometry of the object is captured , the point cloud data is taken to surface modeling software where first the curves are fitted over the point cloud and subsequently the surface is generated using the curves. Solid Model Building After the surfaces are generated over the point cloud data, it is exported for making the solid model out of it since surfaces are of no use for manufacturing purpose. In solid modeling stage these surfaces are closed together, free edges are stitched to make a watertight geometry so that this model can be further tessellated for use in Rapid Prototyping. Rapid Prototyping And Rapid Tooling RP&RT is used for physical testing of the product for prototyping run. Mass production After the product is thoroughly tested, one can go for its mass production.
